In Australia it’s been getting colder and colder as we near winter and so it’s been a natural process of trying to adjust to the seasonal changes.
This year I’ve gone one step further and I’m also attempting to help myself adjust internally with intention. What does this mean for me? Not pushing myself as hard as I normally do but rather giving myself periods of rest without feeling guilty, time for contemplation, and space for making art for play.
The latter has been a life saver creatively! there’s so much freedom in just playing around with different art materials, themes or just plain doodling to your hearts content without judgement. Making room for a daily art practice is truly wonderful and it gives you so much in return.
The butterfly design for the June Wallpaper calendar 2019, has been a result of this type of play and mindset.
At the time I write this, Butterflies have been appearing a fair bit in my life and so it was only natural for me to paint them in one of my morning art play sessions. They have been adjusted in photoshop, to bring out the beautiful watercolor nature. Instead of a white background I think I was very much influenced in wanting a warm version of the pattern and so decided upon a yellow textural background.
