SHALL WE DINE UPON WISDOM??

The Little Prince is one of my favourite books, and this is just one of the many quotes I love from it.

So much of that book hinges on perception - the snake, the rose, and of course the endless desert.

The desert – which could be so overwhelming and imposing – but de Saint-Exupéry tells us of its promise.

And the reason this is amazing is that he really did crash his plane AND WAS LOST IN THE DESERT! He and his navigator almost died from dehydration.

And then he wrote a book about being lost in the desert, and how beautiful it is.

ADVENTURES IN BIRD LAND

Today’s post is another sample from my new 2021 bird calendar, and the bird theme is extremely appropriate because it has been 100% bird-crazy around here lately.

On Friday, we heard a coo coo coo sound coming from the neighbours. There was a baby currawong stuck in the narrow space beside the neighbour’s house. There was a cat on the other side of the gate. My partner went to catch the bird and the bird ran through the gate toward and OVER the cat. The cat saw my partner sprinting across the yard holding up a red sheet to catch the bird and that cat ran for her life.

We caught the baby bird (doesn’t look that baby but it is ...see next pic). Our neighbour is a wildlife carer, who said put it in a box in a high shady place and the parents will come feed it. We did that and it escaped the box and flew into a tree and then fell out of the tree and ran around on the ground and then climbed another tree. The parents came to feed it.

Since then it’s fallen out of trees and climbed back into them a half dozen times. It’s also survived two 40ºC days and a gale and every morning we wake up and hear it demanding food from its parents. It’s beautiful.

SEASONAL MERRINESS IS HERE!

Hey gang, it’s not Christmas yet but it’s definitely a great time to get your devices into the spirit of things, which you can do with this wallpaper!

It’s been a very busy, but productive time for me in November, when I’ve had a bunch of art projects under way, but it was worth it finally to get everything wrapped up! (No Christmas pun intended).

And some early Christmas cheer has helped me help keep me going – I’ve been listening to Christmas music and making some decorations for a tree (papier mache!)

And all this jollyness made me think that some watercolor elements with Christmas colours would work well for the wallpaper calendar – I hope you like it!

UNSELECTED, MOST LOVED

This bird didn’t make the new calendar, but it’s the one I love most.. Why?

Because I was working on 12 months of landscapes for the calendar, and those landscapes weren’t working for me. Time was running down and I was getting frustrated and worried – would I be able to finish in time with work that I felt good about?

Then I decided to paint a bird, and this is who emerged. And it felt so good, and so right, and after struggling I just loved this bird so much.

I still didn’t think it was ready for the calendar, and I produced a more refined version of it. But this bird was my first step out of that creative hole I was in.

HAPPY BAGGY!

Hey gang, here’s a mockup using one of my old patterns on a cute little baggie!

I like little bags like this – VERY – much. A cute bag is always a nice thing to have, but I found them super useful while traveling.

Especially when travelling long term it’s nice to be able to have a bag for each of say, underwear, shirts, pants and of course dirty stuff (in a plastic bag stuffed down the bottom of the pack which will make it irresistible to customs staff)

Anyway, this makes it very easy to find things inside a giant backpack.

And when you can’t find something you can turn to your travel partner and say WHY is my T-shirt in my underwear bag? (“because they’re the same size” is a very incorrect answer, by the way).

SPECTACULAR! If you’ve got ‘spectacular’ in

SPECTACULAR!

If you’ve got ‘spectacular’ in your name, you know you must be pretty special.

And this is another image from my new 2021 bird calendar, which I’ve finished (OMG!) and is now available on my website (check the link in my bio and click the 2021 Calendars button).

Since this calendar features endangered Australian birds, I’ll be donating some of the proceeds from calendar sales to a local conservation group (still deciding which one, due-diligence takes time, gang).

Anyway, I’m doing all this because I especially love birds – they’re so beautiful, fragile and absolutely FULL ON all the time as if they were made of steel! I love all animals, but those birds are special.
